Is university the right choice for you?

When deciding on your future it can be a massive blank space and a terrifying prospect of being completely in control of your own life. However some people like me have always had an end goal, mine is to be in journalism, I'm still not 100% sure on what aspect but I know I want to be a journalist.

If you have no idea what you want to do, I wouldn't advise going to university. Mainly because if you choose a course you don't enjoy and have never had interest in, that's a waste of £27,000 plus more. BUT if you know you enjoy something like history or English, pretty much anything, university has all that to offer and I would really make the most of looking round open days and getting a feel for courses and places.

Some of you might decide you're 1000% done with the education system after college and sixth form and just want to get away completely into a full time job and I really don't blame you if you make that decision. Another 3 years of educations, stress, tears, assignments and exams doesn't really sell it to me either when I could be earning endless money. Well I say endless..

However you might decide you do want to go university and just have a gap year. I don't know if I do recommend gap years, personally I think if I had had the money it would have been fab to travel. That's what a lot of my friends are doing and that's pretty kwl after you have slaved away for the last two years on A levels, so I think that is a well deserved break IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT. But I do hear alot of people say, leaving education for a year makes them get out of the routine of revising and stuff.

Basically when deciding on what you wanna do with your life in these next few years there are a load of pros and cons, you just have to weigh them all up, and only YOU as an individual can make a decision. Of course get advice but don't let others influence you into spending the next few years doing something you never really wanted to do in the first place.

University is a fab place, for me its changed me completely as a person for the good. I am learning to live independently, handling my own money and controlling my lifestyle without restrictions from parents. Not only this but the people you meet, the whole social aspect and the end result are so worth it. But I would only go to uni if its definitely the place for you.
